VIVID 2022

On the 27th of May, the City of Sydney will come alive as it marks the beginning of VIVID 2022—Sydney’s famous lights, music and arts festival. This year, the festival is coming back bigger than ever after two consecutive cancellations due to COVID. It is a

beautiful opportunity to see the city in a different ‘light’ (excuse the pun), with famous locations like the Opera House and Central Station being swathed with spectacular visuals ranging from abstracted colour shows to our country’s outstanding flora and fauna. With innovative artists pushing the boundaries of creativity and technology and our country’s best minds challenging our thinking in ideas exchange sessions, the festival sparks a sense of wonder for those who attend.

This year, Woven Threads is proud to be hosting our own panel—A Fresh Perspective: Tackling issues with creativity. Our director and co-founder Michi Marosszeky will be joined by four exceptional panellists and moderator, Craig Reucassel:

  • Craig Reucassel—from The Chaser, climate advocate, comedian and writer.

  • Frances Rings—from the Kokatha mob in South Australia, dancer and choreographer.

  • Professor Katherine Boydel—from the Black Dog Institute. [click here to see her research for Woven Threads]

  • Keenan Mundane—from Deadly Connections, co-founder and ambassador, and proud First Nations man. [click here to read about Keenan’s journey]

The panellists will discuss how creativity can initiate change by driving and amplifying social and political conversations that challenge society’s perceptions. Some of Woven Threads’ animations from: Stories from Afar and Stories from Within will be showcased to illustrate this. Our interactive session is sure to host rich conversations about the Arts and the power of creativity. We promise you; it will be so electrifying and inspiring that you too will become an agent of change. [For tickets and more information on the panel, please click here.]

Our panel is just one of many fabulous sessions that will occur throughout VIVID. The many thought-provoking debates programmed between leading industry change-makers will certainly make this a most dynamic festival. The ideas panels will explore concepts crucial to the future of Sydney and the world. The sessions will range from conversations about the historic ballroom scene in the art of drag and chats about beauty and fluidity to discussions about cults, drugs and end-of-life rituals. Definitely, there is a little something for everyone this year, so be sure to check-it-out. If this blog hasn’t excited you to rush out and book tickets, then maybe the vibrant lights that will soon flood the streets of the Sydney CBD will do the trick. We strongly encourage you to explore the list of all the sessions and book tickets before they sell out.

We look forward to seeing you all, out-and-about this year!
