ABOUT OUR PARTNERS: The Black Dog Institute

The Black Dog Institute is one of Australia’s most respected mental health services. It is a trailblazer for research in mental health and boasts over 66 researchers. Woven Threads worked closely alongside Professor Katherine Boydell when creating our short form animations about mental health. As Katherine ’s specialty is data translation (i.e., presenting data in an accessible way), she has explored how media such as film and animation can enhance the understanding of controversial or challenging issues like mental health and addiction. Our blog, 'Seeing the Unseeable in Animation' draws on Katherine's research to explain how animation, due to its expressive and depersonalised nature, is an effective medium for such sensitive topics. We believe that the Black Dog Institute, a leader in mental health research, has created a significant platform for conversations around mental health.
